How long has your business been going for?
Three Years

Where's your Office
We have an office in Pwllheli Marina.

How is your business going?
Its going really well. Since we moved into the office, we are more visible to the owners that have bigger boats. We feel we have more creditability in the area and it’s amazing what a difference a physical office has made.
Re manning the office we run a rota. Andy Topham lives in the area so he and the other agents work a rota to keep the office open.

Where you a Yacht Broker before?
No

Have you got your own boat, if so what would you chose?
Just sold our power boat and our RIB and will probably get another larger RIB to use as a work boat.

What new trends are happening in your business?
This year we really noticed that the Euro exchange rate made a huge difference to the percentage of sales going to European buyers, approx 50% have gone to Europe. We are finding that the small power boats business has gone a bit quieter but sailing boats are selling well.

What ratio sail to power are your listings?
We used to have 2/3 power, (we are power boaters, not sailors) but we are now with the addition of our agents and local sponsorship packages are attracting more sail boat listings. Currently we are listing mostly sail boats, (both our Andys are sailors) and we have sponsored a few sailing regattas this year to increase our visibility within the sailing community.

What new things are happening in your business at present?
Now that the office is running smoothly, I am looking at the best way to expand the business.

Where do you see your business in 2012?
We are hoping to attract more agents who will manage their own area our territory. Each agent can become a broker and develop the business within their own area.

What do you feel important in running your Boatshed business on a daily basis?
Our advice would be:
Keep at it.
Build a good reputation.
Be nice to people.
Make partnerships with other brokers.
Learn to work with people, otherwise they think that you’r against them.
Having access to boat yards and our own hard standing has made a huge difference.
We have sold all our boats from one hard standing area.

What are you doing now?
We are catching up after a week’s holiday in France.
